November 12

This week we took a math test on multiplication.  Some of the students in our class will require some additional help from home in correcting their mistakes.  Every student needs to understand how to multiply.  Multiplication is a concept that needs to be mastered to be successful in math.

We continue to work on our History Fair projects.  Check out rosamondhistoryfair.blogspot.com

Our class is finishing novels written by Bill Wallace.  Each group will create a power point presentation, based on the book they read, as a final project.  The presentations will be shown to the class.  Our practice power point presentations were very well done.  We shared our work, revised, and added graphics. I am beaming with pride!

Next week is Parent Teacher Conference.  I look forward to seeing you there!

November 5

Our country has a new president-elect.

We had our very first RED day for lunch recess. The students in the class will now know how important lunch recess is to me! ;)

After I pass out missing work notes tomorrow, they will also know how important it is to me that each student takes personal responsibility for their assignments.

Our class has been working on the laptops. We have created claymation movies and power point presentations for book reports. We will continue to spend as much time on the laptops as we are able to.

October 22

On Thursday, October 23 our class will screen the movies we created last week. We have invited Kelly Dumont, our district technology specialist, and Ms. Nordick, our principal to the screening. It will be fun and rewarding to share our work.
Next week we will begin our claymation movies. We LOVE being a part of the 21st Century Engaged Classroom!

September 29-October 3

Welcome back to school!

This week we learned a reading comprehension technique called Reciprocal Teaching. This allows the students to become the teachers. They read books about animals and learned to clarify, question, and summarize their reading. They also learned the Five Finger method for reading a textbook. Soon they will be so independent, they won't need me at all!

We have completed our first timings for the Presidential Physical Fitness Program. We will work on specific skills throughout the year to see if their is improvement in the student's scores by spring. Qualifying students will recieve the Presidential Award or the National Award for physical fitness.

We worked on graphing, problem solving, and algebra in math this week. We continue to work on a variety of multiplication charts. Fifth graders MUST know their times tables!

We have two new students. Kierra and Aubrey joined us on Monday. We want to welcome them to our class.

We're Off-track!

I hope you are enjoying your off-track time. I am spending time with my granddaughters, my yard, and this computer! I have a lot to remember from the four day class I took while you were sleeping in and watching TV!

See you soon!
